The introduction of the new Groups feature got me thinking about comments on blogs and, more particularly, the fact that when you make a comment on a blog, how does the original author reply?
The instinctive action is for the original author to comment on the same blog posting, so you get a sort of conversation going. Now, this is where Vox could do with a little improvement.
When someone comments on your blog, you get an email telling you. However, if you have commented on someone else's blog and there are further comments added, you don't get told.
This seems to be particularly relevant to Groups because they encourage discussions, and yet the lack of notification of when someone has replied means that you are going to end up spending a lot of time checking back on the various blog entries that you've commented on to see if there has been an update.
So how about it, Vox? When I post a comment to a blog, can I have an option to be notified if someone else posts a comment to the same blog entry?
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear ... while it is a nice idea of Vox promoting the launch and offering an all-expense-paid trip for two, why on earth is it restricted to US residents?
It isn't impossible to create a global contest - harder than creating one limited to US residents, granted - but not impossible. Getty are running one right now (although I think there are some interesting restrictions like it isn't open to Florida!) but it can be done.
Shame, really, Vox - nice idea, shame about the execution.
